EBOA Mentoring Program 2009/2010

As mentioned in the General Meeting we will be moving forward with the Mentorship Program this season.

For those of you new to the EBOA, the Mentorship Program was initially put in place to assist officials in their development and goals.

We give members a choice from a list of Mentors to assist them in their journey whether that simply is a better quality high school game or perhaps the opportunity to be nominated to attend Provincials. Each Mentor is available for all opportunities to assist our officials at every level.

This year there have been some changes made primarily from the feedback previous Mentees have made to improve the quality of the program.

For those that have previously been involved in the Mentorship Program you are more then welcome to request the same Mentor you had last year; however, I highly recommend beiong open to another Mentor. Not all Mentors are created equally and a new perspective will likely add different and positive things to your growth as an official.

Listed below are the expectations for you as a Mentee.

  1. Once you have been advised officially by me whom your Mentor is, it is your responsibility to contact your Mentor within 1 week. If your Mentor does not hear from you they will then initiate contact with you. If, in turn, there is no response after 1 week, the Mentor will notify me accordingly and you will be dropped from the Program. Time if of the essence and it is your responsibility to be part of the process. Mentors do have other commitments and Mentees to work with and they should not be scrambling after you.
  2. If your goal is to be nominated for Provincials, it will be required you have 2 evaluations by your Mentor. Each evaluation you receive will be sent to you within two weeks. If it is not, you must contact me to advise it has not been received. Your Mentor will also send me a copy of your first evaluation by December 31, 2009 and the second one by January 31, 2009.
  3. Your Mentor will not be giving you just generalized information and their feedback to you will be in a constructive manner. Please ask as many questions as you can to your Mentor. The key for your improvement is up to you and your Mentor is there to assist you. Be open to feedback and professional at all times. Work hard every chance you get.
  4. Try to have the 2 games you are evaluated on with different partners, levels, and times of the year. Your Mentor will not truly see your growth if you have both games evaluated in the month of November.
  5. If you wish to have a 3rd or more evaluations done by a different Mentor you are welcome to do so, however, you will incur the cost for doing so. The Mentorship Program will only accept 2 evaluations per person and only by your own Mentor.
  6. An official cannot request the EDO for an exception to the rule.
  7. You must notify me no later than October 1, 2009 of your intentions to participate in this Program.

A list of the Mentors will be posted by this weekend. Please read their biographies carefully as each as some thing to offer at every level.

I would request you make your top 5 choices and send me an email with those choices. Please also include what your goals are. If you are requesting to keep the same Mentor please include small note as to your reasons for doing so.

The goal will be to have your Mentors assigned no later than October 1, 2009.

Provincial Assigning Policy will also be posted by October 1, 2009.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Happy Hoops!!
