Community Officials Some Simple Things to Remember:
- Take your rule book to the games
- When you get to the gym, change your shoes
- Make sure you have your whistle and a clean ref shirt or t-shirt
- Carry some change
- Each ref should met a coach and remind them:
- To pay you before the game starts, sign their receipt
(game fees are in the rule book)
- Get them to fill out the game sheets, which the home team is to provide.
- Remind them to get a score keeper or timer
- Make sure the clock is set-up
- Teams warm up opposite there bench
- Talk to captains, remind them of good sportsmanship
- First jump ball, teams shoot at the basket they warmed up at
- After that every jump ball is alternating possession
(arrow points in direction of play)
- Don't be afraid to blow the whistle to call out of bounds, travel and fouls
- Most important don't let the fans, coaches, players upset you
- Confidence comes with experience
What do you do if:
- Only one ref shows up. Get a portion of game fees from each coach
(see rule book for details)
- Only one team shows up. The coach must pay both officials
- If there is a closed gym, no teams etc. Call the voicemail 988-4851 as soon as possible. Leave a message stating who you are, your phone number, the school you were at, date and time of the games so you can be paid.
- You have any questions. Call the voice mail leave a message with your question, name and phone number.
You will make some good money and after Christmas you can work as much as you want. Good Luck. Have Fun.
