CBOC Ritchie/Nicurity Scholarship 

The CBOC Ritchie/Necurity Scholarships award $750 to promising young referees to assist in furthering their education. 

Congratulations to EBOA members Katia Davi-Digui and Calvin Kha.

The 2020 recipients are:

   - Katia Davi-Digui (Alberta) - MacEwan University, Faculty of Science

   - Calvin Kha (Alberta) - MacEwan University, Faculty of Arts

   - Carriera Lamoureux (Manitoba) - University of Manitoba, Masters of Religious Studies

   - Cieran O'Hara (Manitoba) - University of Manitoba, Faculty of Science

   - Zachary Udoumoren (Alberta) - University of Calgary, Faculty of Science

   - Alexandre Teichmann, (Quebec) - University of Montreal, Faculty of Medicine

Scholarship Information and Recipients

The EBOA Executive will announce the scholarship recipients at the EBOA General Meeting held in September of each calendar year.  Members are invited to send their application to the EBOA Director of Administration no later than August 1st of each calendar year.

Daryl Paustian Development Scholarship

The EBOA’s Daryl Paustian Development Scholarship recognizes officials that value the importance of personal growth and development in their officiating avocation by attending officiating camps each year. 

 

Every year the EBOA is awards up to four $250.00 scholarships to officials that have attended officiating camps in the year just completed. 

 

Eligibility Criteria: 

1. Attended an Officiating Camp in the current year; 

2. Is a Member in good standing with the EBOA; 

3. Member did not receive a Development Scholarship from EBOA in the prior year. 

 

EBOA Members meeting the above Eligibility Criteria are encouraged to apply by providing a minimum 300 word-essay on: 

1. Why the applicant is deserving of receiving a Scholarship; 

2. Key learnings from the camp(s) that will be used by the Official to improve their performance; 

3. Personal officiating goals, both short term and long term. 

 

Additional Information to be included with the application: 

1. Name(s) of the camp(s) you attended; 

2. Copy of Camp receipt as proof of payment.

Background on Daryl Paustian: 

Daryl Paustian dedicated a lifetime to basketball officiating as an active member of the EBOA for over 30 years. He achieved success officiating provincially, nationally and internationally, in both able bodied and wheelchair basketball.  He served on the EBOA Executive for six years in a number of different capacities. He also served on the ABOA’s Provincial Evaluation Committee since 1997, with a focus and commitment, to the development and education of officials. 

Daryl passed away on August 15, 2009.

Angie Celino Education and Development Scholarship

The EBOA’s Angie Celino Education and Development scholarship recognizes High School and Post-Secondary student officials who dedicate their officiating avocation to personal and community growth. Each year, EBOA awards up to two $250 scholarships.

 

Eligibility Criteria is as follows:

1) A Current Full –time High School or Full-time post-secondary student;

2) Member dedicated to their development by participating in the mentorship program, Camp(s) and or clinics;

3) Been an ambassador for the EBOA by being actively involved in the promotion of the EBOA through participating in community activities, Camp(s) and clinic(s);

4) A member in good standing

 

EBOA members meeting the above Eligibility Criteria may apply or be nominated with a minimum 300 word-essay on:

1) Why the applicant is deserving of receiving a Scholarship

2) Demonstrate how they have been an ambassador for EBOA and their community

3) Who was their mentor with one or two learning points from the past year

4) Personal officiating goals, both short and long term.

 

Additional information to be included with application:

1) Student ID card and proof of full-time status;

2) Name(s) of the Camp(s) you attended;

3) Copy of Camp receipts as proof of payment

 

The EBOA Executive will announce the scholarship recipient(s) at the EBOA General Meeting held in September of each Calendar year. Members are invited to send their application or nominate a member to the EBOA Director of Administration prior to the August deadline of each calendar year (to be sent out via email).

 

Background on Angie Celino:

Angie Celino embodied a legacy of relentless dedication and passion by officiating both Stand up and Wheelchair Basketball and for the Edmonton Basketball Officials Association. Through her tireless hard work and promotion of referees Angie became an ambassador for the EBOA. Those attributes were recognized within the basketball community. She was an ACAC official who contributed and committed to the mentoring and evaluation of officials to promote development and education of the EBOA and its officials. She lived a life that is an example of perseverance, determination and pride.

Dave Buffie Mentorship Scholarship

The EBOA’s Dave Buffie Mentorship Scholarship aims to provide financial support to a younger official committed to their development. Each year, the EBOA will award one (1) $500.00 scholarship to an EBOA member in good standing.
